The Last Word...

on Bill Miner and the four years he spent in Canada.  A captivating example of the historical true crime genre, this well-documented volume highlights the ordinary people of British Columbia during a formative time when the frontier was dying, and today’s modern world was emerging.  Intriguing glimpses into the operations of the Canadian Pacific Railway, the B.C. Provincial Police, the Royal North West Mounted Police and the B.C. Penitentiary bring a forgotten era to life.

REVIEWS & OTHER MEDIA

Spring 2007 - "Why I Self Published"  (pdf file)

Article by the author in BC Bookworld, "Lookout," p19.

(In a full page spread in BC's most prestigious book journal edited by Alan Twigg, the writer's thought processes on why I decided to self publish are given.)

DEC 13 2006 - "Mining a book on Billy"

Mikelle Sasakamoose, Kamloops This Week, newspaper, p36.

DEC 11 2006 - "...The Real Story"

Mark McMillan, The Cowboy Times, Official Newsletter of the BC Cowboy Heritage Society, website and hard copy newsletter, p5.

(Mark took five months to read my book, but the wait was worth it.  He did a great job.)

DEC 8 2006 - "Bill Miner, the Grey Fox, Canada's First Train Robber."

Doug Mackey, North Bay Nugget, Community Voices Section, newspaper, p2-3.

(This article by a free lancer in northern Ontario, gives a good detailed desription of Bill Miner's photographer, Mary Spencer.)

WINTER 2006 - "X is for Xtraordinary"  (jpg file)

BC Bookworld, Who's Who, p40.

(Alan Twigg makes some very positive comments on my book.  It was a thrill to see reference to my work in such a well-known BC publication.)

SEPT-OCT 2006 - "Interred With Their Bones"  (doc file)

Russell Morgan, Canadian Railway Modeller, Canadian Book Reviews, p15.

(Reviewed in Canada's premier railway modeller's magazine, my book has piqued the interest of railway buffs across the country.  Due to this review and some in other publications, orders have been shipped as far afield as a railway oriented book store in Montreal.)

SUMMER 2006 - "Western and Cowboy Poetry at the Bar D Ranch"  website.  (doc file)

(This is the US top website for cowboy poetry.  The review detailing some of the cowboy poetry discovered during my research and inserted in my book is the first American recognition that I received.  I was thrilled to say the least.  A quote notes that some of the examples in my book reflect "...original poetry in the style of Robert Service."  Shorty Dunn would have been proud.)

JUN 24 2006 - "Tracking the Notorious Miner"

John Mackie, The Vancouver Sun newspaper, pages C1 and C10 in the "Weekend Review."

Page 1.   Page 2.  (pdf files)

(John Mackie's article is a review of Miner's antics in BC, references to my newly published book, and also details recently discovered photos and diaries of Miner, his gang and the Revelstoke CPR Divisional Superintendent Thomas Kilpatrick.  The Sun is BC's most influential paper, and this review has been most advantageous in gaining recognition and publicity.)

JUN 08 2006 - "Mission figures prominently in Miner book"

Jason Roessle, The Mission Record newspaper.

(The town of Mission in the Fraser Valley is very aware of its connections with Miner.  Jason's review reflects that interest.)

MAY 2006 - "Telling Tales of Billy Miner"  (pdf)

Lissa Millar, Senior Connector newspaper.

(Lissa's review is probably the most comprehensive yet done on my book.  She was an excellent interviewer, and puts a great deal of effort into her work.)

Mel Rothenburger, Kamloops Daily News Editorial, p. A6.
